Quick and Easy Steak to impress.

Ingredients and final steak fish - olive oil, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes and steak.

The steak pictured is medium sized, before cooking ( approx 13 x 8 cm) and thickness (approx 2.5cm).
Adjust the ingredient quantities and cooking times accordingly to suit your preferences.

Ingredients:

  • Red onion
  • Brown mushrooms or equivalent
  • Tomatoes
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Steak – Sirloin or your preferred steak.
  • Baby spinach leaves or greens of your choice.

Slice the red onion into rings or half rings. These reduce when cooked, so ¼ to ½ a medium onion per person.

Slice your mushrooms, I used brown mushrooms which I recommend for how they Sautee in olive oil. They reduce in size when cooked, so approx. 1 – 2 cups per person

Dice the tomatoes, ½ to 1 medium tomatoe per person

Pan-fry your steak the way you like it.

  1. Bring a sirloin steak to room temperature.
  2. Add a little oil to a pan.
  3. Heat the pan until it’s almost smoking hot.
  4. Just before cooking, season the steak on both sides, eg. cracked pepper or specific steak seasoning.

Cook times

Well done 4 – 5 min each side
Medium 2 ½ min each side
Medium-rare2 min each side
Rare1 ½ min each side
Blue1 min each side

Rest the cooked steak for half the cooking time.

Sautee your vegetables.

Keep the steak juices in the pan and add olive oil to just cover the pan with a thin film. You can always add more as needed.

Reduce the heat to medium (this will depend on your stove top)

Add your sliced onions straight away and Sautee until they just look translucent or softer to touch.

Add the sliced mushrooms and stir until they soften. You may need more olive oil as the mushrooms soak up any juices.

Add the diced tomatoes and stir all ingredients until it reduces to a good self saucing consistency.

Cover your steak with your sautéed vegetables and juices.

Garnish with baby spinach leaves or other greens of your liking.

Enjoy your Steak.
