For those who need a hair boost during quarantine, here’s an at home highlights kit. AUD$ 15 – 20 depending on the store.

I have personally tried the “Brush on Glam Highlights” and it works. The effects are dramatic and noticeable.
Below is a 1 min. Demo video taking you through my personal process from the application to the styling.
I should point out that I have been cutting, colouring and styling my own hair for about 25 years. So, needless to say I am quite experienced in using these hair products.
I recommend for those not familiar or capable of applying it on yourself, to get your living partner, companion or quarantine partner to apply it for you. It’s simple and doing it on someone else would be a lot easier.
It’s not a relaxing pampering feeling when you do it yourself, like at a hair salon, but it still gives you a lift when faced with the no hair salon available scenario. If a partner or friend can do it for you, you could make it a special pamper day.
The contents displayed below, give you everything from the gloves to the application comb. You will need to supply your own plastic cape to cover your shoulders (clothes) or wrap an old towel around your shoulders.
Please note the safety precautions below, to decide if it is right for you. If unsure do a patch test prior.
GLAM HIGHLIGHTS – MY PERSONAL PROCESS AND RESULTS
I did as the instructions said, applying highlights to the top layer, around my face and more on the lower half. It worked great. I am blonde, so I would be interested to know how it worked on darker hair.
After a couple of months of regrowth and a couple of all over toner applications, I did another Glam Highlights application, and did exactly the same but this time I sectioned layers, like you do with foils. Starting with the bottom layer, and ending with the top layer. Again focusing on more highlights around my face.
As you can see, I have quite long hair and the one kit box has ample quantity to do a full layered head of highlights while adding more to the ends and round the face.
Short haired people, one kit could possibly do you and your partner depending on the quantity of highlights you prefer. You can have just a few highlights or more highlights.
You can’t reuse the solution once they are mixed together, so it must be used in one day. As the highlight mixture is a bleach mixture, over time they can become brassy ( yellowy) this is why a purple toner and or shampoo conditioner are recommended. Purple counteracts the brassiness, it does NOT turn your hair purple. There are many brands that offer these products, a well priced reputable product is below and is by the same company that makes the Glam Kit. approx AUD$ 5-6 each.
MY PERSONAL RECOMMENDATIONS
For those who want a more subtle or blended look, I recommend using a toner afterwards (especially blondes) or another all over colour about 48 hours to a week later. These are available from the same outlets that stock this product. These products range from AUD $ 10 – 25
Clairol multi tonal is one that I have tried and liked. It gives a blend of all over lowlights and highlights according to your hair, so perfect after doing the L’Oréal Glam Highlights.
Still well priced for both the highlights kit and all over toner / colour kit. Depending on whether you are blonde, or brunette this after colour would be the low light colour of your hair.
If you are blonde like me, Ash blonde all over permanent also counteracts any brassiness between your next GLAM Highlight application. You can use semi permanent or a temporary wash in colour, to test out your colour choice.
Pamper yourself or your partner.
You’re worth it !
