Microsoft Word – Versatile and fun!
The most popular word document software / app used in a professional capacity is Microsoft Word. Knowledge and use of the software is often required. It converts and crosses over into other word applications and is available for the mobile platform.
It’s not just for word processing, you can do an array of creative desktop publishing, share and have conversations with friends or co workers within documents, and can be quite fun.

I can create, edit or read a professional word document, on my mobile phones, and they are NOT Windows/Microsoft phones.
The mobile app has nearly all the same features as the desktop software except optimized and adapted for mobile:
- You can create the document offline and go online to share or sync to the cloud.
- Create a doc, docx. and convert it to a PDF; all in the one app.
- Start from scratch, use one of their templates; or create your own template as I prefer to do.
- The App. is compatible with all email platforms that I have tried, not just outlook. It can be synced with your other devices and their cloud platform OneDrive; which can automatically sync and backup your work.
- Share and collaborate with co-workers in the Word document.
Below is an excerpt from the Microsoft Office Word App in the Play store. It is free for the basic version with upgrades to unlock extra Pro. features. The complete Mobile – Microsoft Office Suite- is also available in the Play Store.

“Microsoft Word:With Word, your Office moves with you. Whether you are a blogger, writer, journalist, columnist, student or a project manager working on documentation, it’s as handy as you want it to be.

It works with cloud storage apps like Google Drive, Dropbox and iCloud; productivity apps including Todoist, OmniFocus and Things; team working apps such as Trello, Slack, Asana and Salesforce; and many more.
Document format and layout stays pristine and looks great – whatever device you use.
You can also share Word Docs and PDF’s with cloud platforms such as Dropbox and most professional cloud services. Many give a free limited storage version for private individuals, while the Pro version offers more storage and extra features for companies and professional individuals.

I shared the Word Document Demo to Dropbox as a PDF. Anyone with this link can view online, print or download. Think of it as your private viewing in the cloud, all you see is the one PDF, no advertisements or other docs. If you were listed as a friend or co-worker you could add comments and have a conversation within that one document.
Dropbox files / articles / images can be set to share as : view only or edit. Or not share and keep it totally private.
I set this PDF to share with: anyone with the link, but not edit, so you can’t contribute.
Multiple articles and documents could be in one folder in the cloud, and all of them hosting their own different Web chat.
You don’t need a Dropbox account to access other people’s Dropbox links, just click the “continue to website button” and then close the blue box by clicking the X .
Just view the PDF or click the 3 dots in the top right; or your icon and print or download the PDF.
All from a phone!
If you download to your phone, it usually goes to your 🗂️ Files folder/manager in the download section, unless you state otherwise. ( You do need a PDF viewer/reader, most smartphones have a PDF viewer pre-installed).
Most final professional documents are shared and downloaded as PDF’s eg. legal documents, transcripts, lodgement forms etc.

Video – Creative Publishing Demos
This next video is a compilation demo of catalogue brochures; created on my phone in the Word Doc App.
Desktop / phonetop – brochure publishing takes a deceptively long time to create. There is a lot of fiddling around with layout, combining text and images, sizing and visual impact. Therefore, I have only shown the end result; but we’ve just gone through the process anyway, in the previous tutorial and demo.
*I personally ( Heidi M) created all the content, images and text plus the extra content within content. As a former fashion designer, I designed the garments. For those that don’t know, a qualified fashion designer (BA Degree 3+ years) is not a trained industrial seamstress/tailor or a casual sewer at home.
If you need a comparison, it’s like a qualified architect and engineer (BA Degree 3+years) rolled into one, as opposed to a trained tradesman (tradeswoman) / builder, or a casual handyman (woman) .
**Please note the garments are real and the person/people are real, not CGI, but like a movie and fashion editorials, they are staged, except with a digital twist.
*** The images have been compressed for this demo at the PDF stage and earlier to avoid unauthorised use of high resolution images.
